Frequently Asked Questions
What are your hours?

Saturdays 9am to 5pm
Sundays 1pm to 5 pm
Last shooters start at 4pm or we close early.
Do I need a reservation to shoot?

No. Walk-ins are always welcome at Clay Bird Sports. Just come on out, check in, and you’re good to go. If you want to reserve a golf cart, shotgun rental, or book instruction, please text 405-778-2529 — but for regular shooting, no reservation is needed.
Can first-time shooters participate?

Yes. First-time shooters are absolutely welcome. If you have an experienced shooter with you who can give close guidance, that works great. If not, we recommend booking a lesson with Greg. He has introduced hundreds of new shooters to the sport and specializes in helping beginners start the right way — confident, safe, and without the fear or anxiety that can come from trying to learn on your own. It’s an investment that pays off immediately in safety, skill, and enjoyment.
Is Instruction Available?

Yes. We offer private and introductory instruction. Click here for full details.
Do you provide eye and ear protection?

Yes. We have eye and ear protection available on-site for a small fee, and you’re welcome to bring your own. Prescription glasses and sunglasses both count as approved safety eyewear.
What ammo can I use?

The biggest thing to get right is shot size. Only #7.5, #8, and #9 shot is allowed — in either lead or steel. Anything larger (numbers less than 7.5) is not permitted on the course.
Beyond that, you can run any velocity you like, but most shooters find that a 1 oz load around 1200 fps is the sweet spot for sporting clays. It patterns well, feels good, and breaks targets reliably.
Can I bring my own targets?
All targets must be purchased from Clay Bird Sports. Buying targets is how range time is paid for — it keeps the course running, maintained, and available for everyone to enjoy.
Do you sell Ammo?
Yes. We do sell ammo, but it’s always best to call ahead to check availability. We sell out regularly, and there’s no reason to show up without shells — a quick call saves the headache.
What is the age policy?

Can I bring my own Golf Cart, 4 wheeler, Side by Side to get around the course?

Yes, absolutely. You’re welcome to bring your own cart or ATV as long as it’s covered by your personal liability insurance. Since you own and operate the vehicle, safety is your responsibility. Please follow all range rules and keep speeds at a walking pace for the comfort and safety of everyone on the course.

Do you rent Golf Carts?

Yes. We rent both golf carts and a Mule side-by-side for getting around the course.

How does Payment Work?

We take cash, credit cards, tap-to-pay, and Apple Pay.
For larger groups, we jokingly say we also accept arms and legs — but regular money works just fine.

Do you Allow observers or guests who aren't shooting?

Yes. Non-shooting guests are welcome to come along and enjoy the course. Everyone — shooters and observers — must fill out the waiver and follow basic safety rules. Eye protection is required for all guests while on the course.
How many Stations do you Have?

We have 17 separate shooting stations, supported by 10 stations’ worth of equipment. Targets are changed monthly, so you’ll always find fresh presentations and new challenges every time you visit Clay Bird.

How Long does it Take to Shoot A Round?
It depends on your group. Most shooters run 50 targets over 10 stations in about 30–45 minutes. (Double that for 100 targets each) But if your group is more social, has new shooters, or shoots extra targets, it can take longer. Some public groups turn a round into a relaxed, multi-hour visit — and that’s perfectly fine. If you shoot reasonably quick, two guys can shoot 100 each in about an hour.

Are you open during the Winter?

IYes. We’re open all 12 months of the year. We only close for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Easter, and Mother’s Day (if those fall on a weekend).

Is the Course Walkable?

Yes. Our course is very walkable — about 0.75 miles from start to finish. The longest stretch between stations is roughly 100 yards, and there are benches at every stand if you want to take a break. Our Lakeside Trail is also the only lakeside sporting clays course in Oklahoma, offering beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife along the way..

Can I bring my dog?

YYes — dogs are welcome as long as they’re on a leash and well-behaved. If your dog is gun-shy, be aware that the noise may bother them, even if you’ve never seen a reaction before. We recommend bringing a kennel or crate in case your dog needs a quiet, confined space. Aggressive dogs toward other patrons or pets are not allowed.

Can we bring our own food/drinks?

Yes. You’re welcome to bring your own food and drinks. Please clean up afterward and place all trash in the dumpster when you leave. The pavilion is reserved for events, but it can be rented for small groups if you’d like a dedicated place to eat.

Do you host Corporate Events, Birthday Parties, or Group Outings?

Yes. We host all types of group events — corporate outings, birthday parties, team-building groups, church events, and more. If you’d like help planning your visit or reserving the pavilion, just text us at 405-778-2529.
