Greg Merlyn is our Club Pro

Greg is originally from Ardmore OK and moved to Shawnee upon HS Graduation.  While in college at Oklahoma Baptist University, he was a competitive runner competing in Track and Cross Country and an Indoor and Outdoor Track All American.  After many years as a competitive athlete, Greg was looking for something to fill the competitive void missing in his life.  Greg inherited a Winchester Model 12 from his Grandfather, and took up shotgun shooting.  Self Taught out of a book called "Score Better at Trap" he taught himself how to shoot at a friends 40 acre field with a trap mounted on a spare car tire.  After about 6 months worked his nerve up to go to the local trap club.  Greg was a competitive trap shooter for a few years, working his way to A class and Long Yardage.  In 2007 Greg became a father and competitive shooting took a back seat.  He began shooting Sporting Clays for fun.  Greg began volunteering at the club in 2005 and started running sporting clays at the club with hand set traps in 2007. He had the club with full automated small machines by 2009.  In 2013 he reclaimed the old walking course's 1st 5 stations.  In June 2014, the additional 5 stations were reclaimed and refined, and Clay Bird Sports was founded.
